History of Kanchipuram Silk Sarees

The Sarees are woven from pure mulberry silk thread. The pure mulberry silk used in the making of Kanchipuram Sarees comes from South India and the Zari comes from Gujarat. To weave a Kanchipuram Saree three shuttles are used Silk weaving in our South India is a centuries-old tradition. The silk Sarees are exotic pieces of art, woven from pure mulberry silk. Available in a variety of designs, these Sarees have vibrant colors and are decorated with fine gold thread (zari).

Indian silks and Kanchipuram silk in particular have been creating waves in the fashion capitals of the world and in haute couture since last decade. Each saree is normally six yards in length and some come in nine yards length too, varying in width. They are popular attire for a myriad of social occasions like weddings, religious ceremonies and even parties.
